Former School Teacher, Jeff Horn Defeats Manny Pacquiao To Claim WBO Welterweight Title
Former Australian school teacher turned boxer Jeff Horn has shocked the boxing world and legendary world champion, Manny Pacquiao to win the World Boxing Organisation welterweight crown with a unanimous points decision in Brisbane on Sunday.
38 years old, Pacquiao, an eight-weight world champion considered one of the greatest fighters of his generation’s camp had predicted a “short and sweet” win over Horn, a 2012 Australian Olympian.
In the 12-round match dubbed the “Battle of Brisbane”, 29-year-old former schoolteacher who was considered an uneven match for veteran Pacquiao was declared the winner on points: 117-111, 115-113, 115-113 by the judges.
Three-time world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has since disputed the result on Twitter saying;
“This is what’s wrong with boxing. Horn was very game but I’m hard pressed to see how he could have won that fight by any stretch!”
