The Lagos State Government has reportedly handed over two teachers of Nazareth Junior/Senior College, Ibowon, Epe, to the Police for allegedly defiling some students of the school.
According to report, this was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, in his office, where he said that the arrest was effected following the confession by the teachers to sexual abuse at a Personnel Management Board (PMB) meeting set up by the Ministry on the issue.
Mr Odeyemi revealed that the recommendations of the PMB will be implemented to the letter by the State Government as a way of demonstrating its zero tolerance for child abuse in the State. Explaining further that the students, who were the complainants, had already offered statements at the Lagos State Police Command, while necessary steps towards prosecution will be taken as soon the Police conclude their investigation.
He further added that in line with established procedures, the State Government has taken the affected students to the hospital for comprehensive medical examination to aid in the Police investigation and pledged that the State Government would ensure that any student found to have been abused and traumatized by the event would undergo necessary counselling and rehabilitation at appropriate government agencies.
